About





Francesc Badia i Dalmases is an award-winning independent journalist, film maker, documentary producer, communications expert and consultant, and founder and editor (2015-2025) of democraciaAbierta, a global platform for Latin American voices and a section in Spanish and Portuguese of openDemocracy, London. He is a frequent international affairs analyst and media commentator, speaker at international debates and think tank seminars worldwide, and a regular contributor to El País, The Guardian, and many other international media. Badia is a multiple Pulitzer Center grantee and has been awarded the Gabo Prize for his work in the Amazon with the Rainforest Journalism Fund granted video series ‘Rainforest Defenders’. Apart from his native Spanish, he is fluent in English, French, Italian, Portuguese and Catalan. Badia was born in Mexico and spends most of his professional life between Latin America, Africa and Europe. Badia is the author of several books, including Order and Disorder in the 21st Century (Barcelona 2016), and more recently Disruptions. Backlash and Resistances of Latin American Democracies (London, 2025).
